Sunday 5.1.2011

We left home at 8:13 am. The sun was shining in a clear blue sky. The New England landscape was painted with the red of maple tree flowers and the greens of pine trees and emerging oak and maple leaves. It was a pleasant landscape to drive through.

By noon we had crossed the Hudson River on the Tappan Zee Bridge and stopped for lunch beside this vista where brown bare hills were slowly turning green.
The farther we went the greener it got, and the clouds came in bringing rain in Pennsylvania and Maryland. The brown, barren trees soon gave way to a lusher, greener landscape dotted with farms.

We arrived in Hagerstown, MD about  6 pm and checked into the Econo Lodge. We had a sumptuous repast at Dennys ( 20% discount for Seniors!).
And retired our room to recover from our hours in the car.

Tomorrow we drive to Staunton (pronounced "Stanton")
Virginia to visit of our favorite living history museums, The Museum of Frontier Culture.

Then on to Pigeon Forge, TN ( I think.) to spend 2 nights and visit the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
