SANTA FE SCENES

The Plaza

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Today we explored Santa Fe. We drove into the city on the morning to get acquainted. It was another glorious sun-filled day with an expansive blue sky. We wandered about in and out of shops and then left to visit with John Walker and Connie Wind and go to lunch at the local small restaurant where John works evenings. Neat place!

After lunch we returned to our house and relaxed before returning to the city to take a tram tour of historic sites.  For two hours our guide regaled us with stories of early settlers and the history of Santa Fe. What do I remember? Not much – the facts came thick and fast.

I do know that Shirley McClain tried to level a mountain top to build her dream house the City said, “No!” I also know that state capitol, at the highest elevation of any state capitol, has no dome because no building can be higher than the church. For the same reason the five story State Office Building appears to be three storys high because two storys are underground.

Had dinner at the Atomic Grill- don’t go there.

Tomorrow we will drive north to Los Alamos to visit Bandelier National Monument. Monday we leave for Durango, Colorado where we camp for one night.
