We left Hagerstown, MD and drove south on I-81 though West Virginia to Virginia stopping at the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton,Va. This living history museum has acquired houses from the native countries of the various cultures represented by settlers of area: England, Ireland, Germany, and Nigeria. In addition they have added buildings from various periods of American history - schoolhouse, farm house, threshing barn, frontier cabin, etc.
We left Staunton and continued on down I-81 to I-40 for a short distance before heading south to Pigeon Forge, TN. The trip I-80 took us past farm lands with mountain views on both sides. The weather was ideal. At one point we passed a village that had been devastated by a tornado. What a disaster!
We reached our destination, Pigeon Forge,TN in late afternoon. The best way to describe Pigeon Forge is to say it offered the most amazing array of schemes to squeeze a dollar from a tourist!! Note two of our favorites below.
Yes, the Titanic is full size and includes the ice berg! I can't tell you about the Hatfields and McCoys because we passed on that. Ya gotta see it to believe it.
Our reason for being in Pigeon Forge is to spend the next day touring the Great Smokies National Park.
