Yippee! My camera is back from the repair shop in time for the trip. After many calls to Nikon Repair explaining that I was about to embark on "The Trip of a Lifetime" around the US of A, I was promised I would have the camera in my hands no later than April 29th. It came yesterday. However, when I installed the flash card, I received the same error code that had caused me to send the camera off to be repaired. My first reaction was that they had not repaired it at all. I tried all my flash cards. Same result! Arrrggghhhh!
Before I called Nikon to explain what was going to happen to them, I thought perhaps my flash cards had been damaged by the faulty camera. I went to Staples to buy a new flash card. As I drove I rehearsed the tirade I going to unleash when I finally called them.
I bought the new flash card, returned home - and it worked!!! Whew.
All that practicing for nothing.
The car is partially packed nearly ready for departure on Sunday. I'm ready and tired of planning and anticipating. Time to hit the road.

The rest of the trip
Hi Folks,
From Yellowstone (where we spend five days and make a trip the Grand Tetons) we drive across Wyoming to South Dakota and stop at Mount Rushmore and tour the Badlands. After camping in South Dakota we cross Minnesota to Wisconsin and then down through Illinois to Indiana and into Michigan stopping at Greenfield Village and the Ford Museum where we have been promised a ride in the Ford Museum's steam engine.
The final leg takes us though Canada to Niagra Falls and then to Windsor, CT to spend the night with Cate Speer (Carol's niece) and finally home.

more on trip route
From Carlsbad, CA we head north stopping to camp at Morro Bay-a childhood fascination with Morro Rock prompted this stop. Our next stop is Los Altos, CA to stay with friends for a few days and then on to Santa Rosa (north of San Francisco) to stay with friends..
Then on to Jacksonville, OR for couple of days. After this we run out of friends and start staying in motels and camping. First stop after Jacksonville OR is Tumwater, WA for 2 nights in a motel so we can take a day trip up the Olympic Penninsula.
From Tumwater we go back to Portland, OR and travel up the Columbia River Gorge on our way to Glacier National Park
